RIPTA EXPRESS SERVICE TO SOUTH COUNTY BEACHES STARTS SATURDAY, JUNE 28TH

June 26, 2008 - PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND... The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement its express service to South County beaches, beginning Saturday, June 28th as a part of its annual summer service changes. RIPTA makes regular service adjustments three times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use.

Starting June 28th and running through August 11, 2008, Beach Busses will travel daily from the Woonsocket Depot, North Providence (Tim Horton’s), Cranston City Hall, Central Falls (400 Dexter Street) and the Pawtucket Transit Center to Scarborough, Salty Brine and Wheeler Beaches. Passengers should consult the RIPTA Rte. 66 schedule for details of the beach trips. These buses stop in Kennedy Plaza on their way to the beaches. RIPTA Rte. 66 also provides 7-day-a-week, year-round service to the beaches, with Rte. 66 buses departing from Kennedy Plaza every 80 minutes.

A one-way trip to the beach costs the standard bus fare, payable on board, or customers may use their RIPTA passes. For the beach service trip times, including service from Woonsocket, North Providence, Cranston, Central Falls and Pawtucket, the public should consult the new Route 66 (URI/Galilee) schedule.
