When Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza boards a RIPTA bus Tuesday morning to commute to downtown, he will be joined by Ray Studley, CEO of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA), and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Chairman of RIPTA’s Board of Directors.

The officials will take a regular-route bus from Mayor Elorza’s home neighborhood in the city’s Silver Lake section to Kennedy Plaza where a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate the reopening of the newly renovated transit hub.

WHAT: Bus ride to Kennedy Plaza for reopening ceremony

WHERE: Bus stop on Pocasset Avenue near Webster Avenue intersection

WHEN: Bus is scheduled to be at the Pocasset Avenue stop at approximately 8:55 a.m. and will arrive at Kennedy Plaza just after 9:15 a.m.

WHY: RIPTA officials appreciate Mayor Elorza’s ride on the bus as it underscores the importance of RIPTA service in the city and throughout the state.

The Kennedy Plaza transit hub reopened to the public on Saturday, January 17, 2015, after being closed for several months for a major improvement project designed to make the area an aesthetic enhancement to the City while also upgrading amenities for RIPTA riders.
