RIPTA Service Delays Due to Icy Pre-Thanksgiving Storm

November 26, 2014

Press Releases

Accidents along major routes in northern Rhode Island are resulting in extended delays on some bus routes servicing that part of the state, the  Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced late Wednesday afternoon.

According to RIPTA, there are numerous accidents along busy arteries such as Routes 146 and 246 and as a result, some bus routes are experiencing delays in excess of 40 minutes.

The bus routes most affected are the 51, 52 and 54 lines.

Also in some areas, hills are icing over quickly causing temporary bus detours which will be restored as soon as the roads are salted or sanded.

RIPTA street supervisors are monitoring the road conditions as the storm moves through the state.  RIPTA will continue to watch storm conditions throughout the evening and temporary detours will be made where necessary.  Passengers are encouraged to check www.RIPTA.com for updates.

Riders’ patience is appreciated and passengers are strongly advised to monitor news reports and check RIPTA’s social media outlets (Facebook@RideRIPTA, Twitter@RIPTA_RI) for service updates.

Passengers are also urged to sign up for electronic News Updates at http://www.ripta.com/detours-news.
