Bus Buddy: Ride with Confidence!

New to RIPTA? We’re Here to Help!

Feeling a little unsure about taking the bus for the first time?
You’re not alone—and that’s exactly why we created Bus Buddy.
It’s a free program designed to help you learn the ropes so you can ride with confidence.

What is the Bus Buddy program?

If you’re new to RIPTA or just need a little extra help learning the bus system, the Bus Buddy Program is here for you. A Bus Buddy will meet you in person, ride with you, and show you everything you need to know to travel with ease.

Our goal is simple: help riders gain confidence and independence when using public transit.

Bus Buddy connects you with a friendly RIPTA staff member who will:

  • Help you plan your trip
  • Meet you at the bus stop closest to your home
  • Walk you through reading schedules and maps
  • Explain how to pay your fare with Wave, RIPTA’s smart fare system (you are required to pay your own fare)
  • Teach you how to board, find your seat, and request your stop
  • Help you with transferring to another route
  • Answer any questions you have along the way

It’s a hands-on way to learn the system, with a friendly face right by your side.

  3. Ride Together
On the day of your trip, your Bus Buddy will meet you at your stop, guide you through the ride, and share tips for next time.
  4. Ride With Confidence
