Due to Post-Blizzard Conditions, RIPTA to Suspend All Service, Including RIde Paratransit, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026
Service will be reinstated as soon as conditions allow
Providence, Rhode Island — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will suspend all service on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, due to post-blizzard conditions and ongoing safety concerns. The safety of RIPTA passengers and employees is the Authority’s top priority.
RIPTA initially suspended service at 9:00 PM on Sunday, February 22, through Monday, February 23, 2026, in anticipation of Winter Storm Hernando. While the intensity of the storm has passed, hazardous road conditions, limited visibility, and the need for continued snow removal operations across the state make it unsafe to resume service at this time.
RIPTA officials will continue to closely monitor roadway conditions and coordinate with state and local partners to ensure streets are safe and accessible for buses and paratransit vehicles before returning to service. Service will be reinstated only when conditions are suitable for safe operations. RIPTA will announce when a decision has been made to resume service.
All RIPTA offices, including the Ticket Sales Office in Kennedy Plaza and the Pawtucket-Central Falls Transit Center, will be closed on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. RIPTA and RIde Customer Service information and reservation lines will also not be staffed on Tuesday.
Service updates will be available at RIPTA.com/alerts, as well as RIPTA’s social media accounts (Facebook @RideRIPTA, X/Twitter @RIPTA_RI) and through the Transit app. Passengers are also encouraged to monitor local news reports for the latest weather conditions.
