This plan documents policies and procedures for the administration in Rhode Island of four Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant programs: Section 5310, Section 5311, Section 5317, and Section 5339. Fare Study In-Depth Goals

RIPTA has focused on green initiatives that cut operating costs while reducing our environmental impact.

RIPTA also plays an important role in reducing vehicle emissions in Rhode Island by replacing automobile trips, reducing traffic congestion and enabling compact development. By providing high-quality transit service, we strive to make our state more sustainable. RIPTA has made green investments in the following areas:

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requires a coordinated public transit-human services transportation plan developed through a local process that includes participation from private, non-profit, and public transportation providers; social service agencies; and the general public.

RIPTA recently launched a planning process to consider developing a One-Call/One-Click transportation resource for Rhode Island.

RIPTA has commissioned several recent studies to seek ways to improve the transit experience for Rhode Islanders. Rising ridership and the need to provide service that best meets demand in our state has driven recent evaluations of RIPTA’s operations, including the Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA). As almost all RIPTA routes access Kennedy Plaza, it is expected that operations at this location would be more closely studied.

The Quonset Transit Market Study and Service Plan conducted an in-depth evaluation of travel patterns to and from the Quonset Business Park in South Kingstown, RI and proposed strategies to increase transit and alternative transportation use among employees at Quonset. The study was conducted by Foursquare Integrated Transportation Planning.

In 2011, the City of Providence was awarded a HUD Community Planning Challenge Grant that identified RIPTA as a partner.  This $1.75mil grant was given to the city to help it and RIPTA reach three primary goals:

The study has performed a detailed evaluation of our system to identify where people live and work, how each bus route is performing today, and where changes might possibly be made to better serve riders.
