RIPTA’S Fall Service Changes To Take Effect Saturday, August 29, 2020

August 24, 2020

Press Releases

Moderate Changes Include Increased Frequency

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement fall service changes effective Saturday, August 29, 2020.  This round of regular, seasonal changes includes notable increased weekend frequency on Routes 20, 31 and 56.   The increased frequency is in response to continued strong ridership on these routes as well as a way of ensuring there is enough room for social distancing on the buses.

RIPTA makes regular service adjustments three times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use.   Other changes this fall are minor and primarily for improved on-time performance.

2020 Fall Service Changes

Trip frequencies on both Route 31 (Cranston Street) and Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue) will be increased to every 18 minutes on Saturdays. Route 31 currently has 25-minute frequency on Saturdays and Route 56 currently has 30-minute frequency.  These two routes will also be served by increased frequency on Sundays.  Sunday frequency on Route 56 will increase from every hour to every 20 minutes, and on Route 31, frequency will increase from every 25 minutes to every 20 minutes.

Route 20 (Elmwood Avenue) will see frequency on Saturdays increase from every 45 minutes to every 30 minutes.
