Beach Service

Did you know that RIPTA can connect you to Rhode Island’s beautiful natural resources?

Our fixed-route service can connect you to a number of places where you can beat the heat. Check out the destinations and routes below.  Click on the links below to view the full schedule.  Have a great summer! See you on board.

South County Express Beach Bus

South County Express Beach Bus provides direct service to Scarborough, Wheeler, and Salty Brine beaches from Woonsocket, Cranston, Central Falls, Pawtucket, Downtown Providence, and North Providence. Service runs on weekends and holidays during the summer months.

Narragansett Beach

Route 14 (West Bay) provides direct service from Kennedy Plaza to the town beach.

  • Weekday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 60 minutes from 5:10 am to 7:10 pm.
  • Saturday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 3 hours from 9:10 am to 3:10 pm.

Scarborough, Wheeler and Salty Brine Beaches (Narragansett)

Route 66 (URI/CCRI Warwick/Providence) provides service to the state’s South County beaches. NOTE: The 66 does not go to the beaches, passengers can ride through to the 69 at URI.

  • Weekday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 30 minutes from 6:06 am to 7:26 pm, then every 60 minutes until 11:26 pm.
  • Saturday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 60 minutes from 7:48 am to 9:48 pm.
  • Sunday and Holidays – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 60 minutes from 7:53 am to 10:08 pm.

First Beach (Newport)

Route 68 (CCRI NPT/Mem/ Blvd/First Beach) provides service to First Beach in Newport.

  • 7 Days a Week – Trips depart Newport Transportation Center every 45 minutes from 8:18 am to 4:14 pm.

Cliff Walk, Belmont and Bailey Beaches (Newport)

Route 67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina Univ) provides service to the Cliff Walk, as well as the Belmont and Bailey Beaches in Newport.

  • Weekday – Trips depart Newport Transportation Center every 30 minutes from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
  • Saturday – Trips depart Newport Transportation Center every 30 minutes from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm.
  • Sunday and Holidays – Trips depart Newport Transportation Center every 30 minutes from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm.

Lincoln Woods

Route 51 (Twin River/CCRI) and Route 54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket) provide direct service from Kennedy Plaza to Lincoln Woods with its 600-plus acres around Olney Pond.

Route 51 Twin River/CCRI

  • Weekday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 43 minutes from 6:40 am to 11:52 pm.
  • Saturday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 30 minutes from 6:55 am to 10:25 pm. 
  • Sunday and Holidays – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 60 minutes from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Route 54 Lincoln/Woonsocket

  • Weekday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 43 minutes from 5:20 am to 11:58 pm.
  • Saturday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 55 minutes from 6:55 am to 11:25 pm.
  • Sunday and Holidays – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 60 minutes from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm.

Oakland Beach (Warwick)

Route 3 (Oakland Beach)  provides service to this inlet beach which is just 10 miles south of Providence. 

  • Weekday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 40 minutes from 6:10 am to 6:50 pm, then every 80 minutes until 9:30 pm.
  • Saturday – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 75 minutes from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm.
  • Sunday and Holidays – Trips depart downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza every 100 minutes from 8:00 am to 7:40 pm.
