DUE TO GROWING DEMAND RIPTA EXPANDS PARK N’ RIDE SERVICE IN WESTERLY BEGINNING FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2013

Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that additional service on Route 95X (Westerly Park N’ Ride) has been added due to growing demand.  The additional trips are effective November 1, 2013.

Earlier this month, RIPTA staff surveyed Park N’ Ride passengers in order to better understand when people need to travel, and what type of services they desire.  Based on their feedback and the success of the “Beat Traffic, Try Transit” campaign additional trips have been added to Route 95X (Westerly Park N’ Ride). An earlier 6:00AM Inbound trip will be available to Route 95X (Westerly Park N’ Ride) passengers. An additional Outbound trip has also been added departing at 4:03pm from Weybosset and Eddy Streets and departing from Exchange Terrace at 4:09pm.

The “Beat Traffic, Try Transit” campaign, launched earlier this summer, is designed to ease traffic congestion on the Interstate through Providence during peak travel times.  Commuters can take advantage of discounted bus fares from select Park n’ Ride lots across the state as well as free parking at select commuter rail stations.  Commuters will have the option of using RIPTA’s fixed-route service at 50 percent off the regular rate or parking for free at Wickford Junction and T.F. Green Train Stations.  The promotion is available Monday through Friday only.
