The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority’s (RIPTA) fixed-route buses will no longer travel over the Geneva Pond Bridge in North Providence, on Douglas Avenue, due to new weight restrictions placed on the bridge by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). As a result, Routes 50 (Douglas Avenue) and 58 (Mineral Spring/North Providence) will no longer service the bus stops on Douglas Avenue between Lubec Street and the entrance to Shaw’s Market. The detour begins on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 and will continue indefinitely.
Route 50 (Douglas Avenue) and Route 58 (Mineral Spring/North Providence) will detour as follows:
Inbound trips will travel via Douglas Avenue, right into the North Providence Marketplace (Shaw’s), exit the North Providence Marketplace via a left onto Smithfield Road, left onto Burns Street to either Branch (Route 58) or Douglas Avenues (Route 50) and then resume regular route.
Outbound trips will travel on Douglas Avenue, turn left onto Lubec Street, right onto Smithfield Avenue, right into the North Providence Marketplace (Shaw’s), exit the North Providence Marketplace via a left onto Douglas Avenue and then resume regular route.
