The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority’s (RIPTA) fixed-route fleet will no longer travel over the Broad Street Bridge in Pawtucket, between Barton and Exchange Streets, due to the weight limit restrictions placed on the bridge by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). As a result, Route 71 will no longer service the bus stops at Kennedy Manor or at the Walgreens on Broad Street. RIPTA will detour Route 71 (Broad St./Pawtucket Ave.) beginning today, Thursday, May 18, 2017 and continue indefinitely.
Route 71 (Broad St./Pawtucket Ave.) will detour as follows:
Southbound trips will travel via Broad Street, turn right onto Barton Street, left onto Dexter Street, left onto Goff Street through to Exchange Street and then resume regular route.
Northbound will travel via Exchange Street through to Goff Street, right onto Dexter Street, right onto Barton Street, left onto Broad Street and then resume regular route.
