DUE TO WINTER STORM EFFECTS, RIPTA TO DETOUR NINE ROUTES ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2014- Updated 6:00pm

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that due to the effects of the winter storm, nine bus routes will be on detour starting today until further notice. RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes before and after the winter storm due to weather conditions, especially on Route 54 and 87. The safety of our employees and passengers is RIPTA’s top priority. RIPTA apologizes for the inconvenience and asks for the public’s understanding as we work around the clock to resume service.

PARK-N-RIDE SERVICE UPDATE: RIPTA buses will not enter Park-N-Ride lots. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on the side of the road.

The following routes are on detour today, Thursday, February 13, 2014 until further notice:

Route 1: UPDATED
Regular service reinstated.

Route 27:
Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.

Route 49:
No service on this line.

Route 51:
Service to CCRI Lincoln Campus suspended; service will terminate at Twin River.

Route 52:
Service to Metcalf Court suspended.

Route 54:
Service to CCRI Lincoln Campus suspended.

Route 55: UPDATED
Regular service reinstated.

Route 58:
Service to Esmond Village suspended.
Service to Georgiaville Manor suspended.

Route 64:
Service to Bay Campus will not loop around campus; service will turn around at the Visitors Center.

Route 72: UPDATED
Regular service reinstated.

Route 73:
Service to CCRI Lincoln Campus suspended; service will terminate at Twin River.

Route 87:
Service to Fairmount suspended.
Service to Morin Heights suspended.

RIPTA’s emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island. Throughout the winter storm, RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes due to the inclement weather. Passengers are strongly advised to monitor news reports, check www.RIPTA.com and RIPTA’s social media outlets (Facebook @RideRIPTA ,Twitter @RIPTA_RI) for service advisory updates. RIPTA urges passengers to sign up for electronic News Updates at http://www.ripta.com/detours-news; RIPTA will e-mail system disruption notices to passengers on this distribution list. Customers are advised to use extra caution at bus stops, as conditions may slippery.
