RIPTA Code of Conduct

Pursuant to authority granted by Rhode Island General Laws §39-18-4.1 and 49 CFR 287.5, RIPTA is seeking to formally set forth Rules of Conduct for Passengers and Patrons. The purpose of the regulation is to formally adopt existing agency practice and expectations and ensure the continued safety and well-being of the public and agency personnel. There are no significant anticipated costs related to this proposed regulation. Costs may include those associated with notification/publication, such as printing costs. The societal benefits include the increased safety and well-being of our passengers and RIPTA personnel which may encourage an increase in ridership. Setting these clear expectations may also decrease the likelihood of disparate or unequal treatment.  A copy of the proposed regulation is found below. Any person may submit a comment and/or request a hearing regarding the proposed regulation to scolantuono@ripta.com. Public comments may also be submitted directly through the Rhode Island Code of Regulations at https://rules.sos.ri.gov/organizations. Such public comment period runs from July 7, 2020 to August 6, 2020.
