The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will offer free service on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021, to all Rhode Island veterans with proof of eligibility. RIPTA will also offer free service for veterans to WaterFire – A Salute to Veterans  on Saturday, November 6, 2021.  Veterans and all passengers are reminded that RIPTA services operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Veterans Day.

Veterans can ride on the holiday and to the special WaterFire event by showing a veteran’s identification card or a driver’s license with a “V” on it.   Below is a summary of RIPTA’s services and operating hours on Veterans Day.

RIde and Flex Services

RIPTA Flex Routes will not be operating on the holiday except for Flex Route 203 (URI/Narragansett/South Kingstown) which will operate from 10 am to 5 pm.  The Flex Service reservation line (1-877-906-FLEX) and the RIde paratransit reservation line (461-9760) will not be staffed on the holiday.  However, RIde passengers can leave a detailed message on the appropriate phone line if they want to schedule an upcoming trip. RIPTA Offices

All RIPTA offices will be closed on the holiday.

“It is our duty as Americans to show our appreciation and gratitude for our Veterans,” said Governor Dan McKee. “RIPTA’s special service to those who have served is one way we can thank them for their sacrifice. I am grateful to RIPTA for their generosity and encourage all Rhode Islanders to show their appreciation to Veterans this holiday.

“RIPTA is pleased to show our appreciation of our Veterans on this holiday,” said Scott Avedisian, RIPTA’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are grateful for their service.”
