RIPTA TO DETOUR FIFTEEN ROUTES IN PROVIDENCE ON SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2016 TO ACCOMMODATE NCAA CELEBRATIONS

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour fifteen routes in Providence on Saturday, March 19, 2016 to accommodate ongoing celebrations in the downtown area.  RIPTA buses will not use Washington Street, Francis Street  (hill portion by State House)  or lower Smith Street during this time. Routes 6, 20, 22, 17, 18, 19, 27, 28, 31, 50, 55, 56, 57, 92 and the R-Line will be on detour from 10:30am until 3:30pm on Saturday, March 19, 2016.  Passengers should expect delays in the downtown area during this time.

The following detours are in effect for Saturday, 19, 2016: 

Route 6 (Prairie/Roger Williams Zoo):

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza, turn left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Weybosset Street, continue on Broad Street and then resume regular route.

Reverse on Inbound.

Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset):

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza, turn left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Weybosset Street, right onto Service Road, left onto Westminster Street and then resume regular route.

Reverse on Inbound.

Route 18 (Union Ave.):

Refer to the Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset) detour

Route 19 (Plainfield/Westminster):

Refer to the Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset) detour

Route 20 (Elmwood Ave/T.F. Green Airport):

Refer to the Route 6 (Prairie/Roger Williams Zoo) detour.

Route 22 (Pontiac Ave.):

Refer to the Route 6 (Prairie/Roger Williams Zoo) detour.

Route 27 (Broadway/Manton):

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza, turn left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Weybosset Street, right onto Service Road, left onto Broadway and then resume regular route.

Reverse on Inbound.

Route 28 (Broadway/Hartford):

Please refer to the Route 27 (Broadway/Manton) detour.

Route 31 (Cranston St.):

Refer to the Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset) detour

Route 50 (Douglas Avenue):

Inbound:  Trips will travel the regular route to Douglas and Orms Streets, left onto Orms Street, right onto Charles Street to Canal Street, right onto Steeple Street to Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound: Trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard onto I-95 North, right at the State Offices Exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Douglas Avenue and then resume the regular route.

Route 55 (Admiral/Providence College):

Inbound:  Trips will travel the regular route to Admiral and Charles Streets, right onto Charles Street through to Canal Street, right onto Steeple Street through to Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street and then resume the regular route.           

Outbound: Trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a right onto Exchange Terrace, left onto Exchange Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Washington Street, left onto North Main Street through to Charles Street, left onto Admiral Street and then resume the regular route.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Outbound trips leaving Kennedy Plaza will turn left onto left onto Exchange Street, to left onto Exchange Terrace, to left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Weybosset Street, right onto Service Road, left onto Atwells Avenue, right onto Dean Street, left onto Chalkstone Avenue and then resume the regular route.

Reverse on Inbound.

Route 57 (Smith Street):

Outbound trips leaving Kennedy Plaza from East Approach will turn left onto Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Weybosset Street, right onto Service Road, left onto Atwells Avenue, right onto Dean Street, left onto Smith Street and then resume the regular route.

Reverse on Inbound.

Route 92 West:

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza, turn left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Weybosset Street, right onto Service Road, left onto Atwells Avenue and then resume regular route.

Reverse on Inbound.

R-Line
