Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour four bus routes in Providence on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm to accommodate the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Service will resume with regularly scheduled trips after 2:30 pm.

The following route detours will be in effect on Saturday, March 10, 2012: 

Route #50 (Douglas Avenue):

Outbound: Trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Street, take a left onto Exchange Terrace to Sabin Street to Broadway, right onto Atwells Avenue, right onto  I-95 North, right onto State Offices exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Douglas Avenue and then resume the regular route.

Inbound:  Trips will travel the regular route to Douglas and Orms Streets, left onto Orms Street, right onto Charles Street to Canal Street, right onto Steeple Street to Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street, and then resume regular route.

Route #55 (Admiral/Providence College):

Outbound: Trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Street, take a right onto Washington Street, left onto North Main Street to Charles Street, left onto Admiral Street and then resume the regular route.                 

Inbound:  Trips will travel the regular route to Admiral and Charles Streets, right onto Charles Street to Canal Street, right onto Steeple Street to Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street and then resume the regular route.    

Route #56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Outbound:  Trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Street, left onto

Exchange Terrace to Sabin Street, right onto West Exchange, right onto Dean Street to Pleasant Valley Parkway to Oakland Avenue, left onto Chalkstone Avenue and then resume the regular route.

Inbound:  Trips will travel regular route to Chalkstone and Oakland Avenues, take a right onto Oakland Avenue to Pleasant Valley Parkway to Dean Street, left onto Atwells Avenue, left onto Broadway, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, then resume regular route.

Route #57 (Smith Street):

Outbound: Trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via left onto Exchange Street, left onto Exchange Terrace to Sabin Street to Broadway, take a right onto Atwells Avenue, right onto I-95 North, right onto the State Offices exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Douglas Avenue, left onto Eaton Street, right onto Smith Street and then resume the regular route.

Inbound:  Trips will travel the regular route to Smith and Eaton Streets; take a left onto Eaton Street, right onto Douglas Avenue, left onto I-95 South, right onto Atwells Avenue exit, left onto Atwells Avenue to LaSalle Square, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance to regular stop in Kennedy Plaza.
