April 16, 2015

Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour four routes in Providence on Saturday, April 18, 2015,  while the East Side Tunnel is closed for routine maintenance. Routes 1, 35, 78, and 92 will be detoured from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The work involves cleaning out storm drains inside the roughly half-mile long tunnel that allows buses servicing Providence’s East Side to avoid the steep slope of College Hill.

The detours for Routes 1, 35, 78 and 92 will be as follows:

Routes 1, 35, 78 and 92:

All outbound (northbound) trips on will operate via Washington Street, then left onto North Main Street, right onto Olney Street, right onto Hope Street to Thayer Street, left onto Waterman Street, and then resume regular route. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off at the Thayer Street end of the tunnel.

All inbound (southbound) trips will travel their usual routes to Thayer and Angell Streets and then use Angell and Steeple Streets to return to their regular routes. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Angell Street next to the Brown Bookstore.
