All lines are to expect minor delays around Kennedy Plaza between 9AM to 12PM

Providence, Rhode Island… The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour sixteen bus routes in the downtown Providence area on Sunday, October 5, 2025, in order to accommodate the Gloria Gemma 5K. Routes 33 and 34 will be detoured from 9:30am to 12pm. Routes 1, 17, 30, 51, 54, 60, 72, 78, 92 and the R-Line will be detoured from 9:30am to 1pm. Routes 50, 55, 56, and 57 will be detoured from the first trip of the day until 5pm.

The following routes will be detoured on Sunday, October 5, 2025:

Route 1 (Eddy/Hope/Benefit)

SOUTH: Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of the East Side Tunnel and North Main Street, turn right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Francis Street, continue onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street and then resume regular route.

NORTH: Outbound trips will travel the regular route from Warwick to Kennedy Plaza, turn left onto Exchange Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard to the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, left onto Orms Street, left onto Charles Street, right onto Randall Square, continue onto Doyle Street, right onto Hope Street through to Thayer Street, left onto Waterman Street and then resume regular route.

Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset)

Inbound trips will travel the regular routeto Washington Street, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 30 (Arlington/Oaklawn)

Inbound trips will travel the regular routeto Memorial Boulevard, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Dorrance Street, continue onto Francis Street, turn left onto Rte. 10 and then resume regular route.

Route 33 (Riverside)

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the East Side Tunnel, turn right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Francis Street, left onto Washington Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will turn left onto Exchange Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, left onto Orms Street, left onto Charles Street, right onto Randall Square, continue onto Doyle Street, right onto Hope Street, continue onto Thayer Street, left onto Waterman Street and then resume regular route.

Route 34 (East Providence)

Please refer to the Route 33 (Riverside) detour.

Route 50 (Douglas Ave.) – ON DETOUR FROM 4AM TO 5PM

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Douglas Avenue, turn left onto the Rte. 146 South on-ramp, continue onto I-95 South, turn right at the Downtown Exit, continue onto Memorial Blvd., turn right onto Exchange St., right onto Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street, and then left into Kennedy Plaza.

Outbound trips will turn left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Douglas Avenue, and then resume regular route.

Route 51 (Charles Street)

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Charles and Smith Streets, turn right onto Smith Street, left onto Francis Street, continue onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips (from RI Hospital) will travel regular route to Washington St., then turn left onto Exchange Street, left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, left onto Orms Street, left onto Charles Street and then resume regular route.

Route 54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket)

Please refer to the Route 51 (Charles Street) detour.

Route 55 (Admiral/Providence College) – ON DETOUR FROM 4AM TO 5PM

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Smith Street, turn left onto Francis Street and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will turn left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, left onto Orms Street, left onto Charles Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Ave.) ON DETOUR 4AM TO 5PM

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Smith and Francis Streets, turn right onto Francis Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will turn left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Smith Street and then resume regular route.

Route 57 (Smith St.) – ON DETOUR FROM 4AM TO 5PM

Please refer to the Route 56 (Chalkstone Ave.) detour.

Route 60 (Providence/Newport)

Inbound trips will travel regular route to I-195 West, take the South Main Street Exit, continue onto I-195 West through to I-95 North, right at the Downtown Exit, right onto Francis Street, and then left onto Exchange Terrace to Bus Stop Y.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard to I-195 East, and then resume regular route.

Route 72 (Weeden/Central Falls)

Please refer to the Route 51 (Charles Street) detour.

Route 78 (Beverage Hill/Newport Ave.)

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to I-195 West through to I-95 North, right at the Point Street Exit, right onto Broad Street through to Weybosset Street, left onto Dorrance Street, and then right onto Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound trips will turn left onto Exchange Street, left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 South on-ramp, right onto I-195 East, and then resume regular route.

Route 92 (Federal Hill/East Side)

WEST: Inbound trips from Riverview Place will travel the regular route to Wickenden Street, turn right onto South Main Street, continue onto North Main Street, turn left onto Smith Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Exchange Street, and then right onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop D.

Outbound trips from Kennedy Plaza will travel the regular route.

EAST: Inbound trips from Federal Hill will travel the regular route to Bus Stop J.

Outbound trips from Kennedy Plaza will leave via a left onto Exchange Street, left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left onto I-95 South to I-195 East, right at the Gano Street Exit, left onto India Street, right onto Gano Street, left onto Wickdenden Street, right onto Ives Street, left onto Trenton Street, left onto Governor Street, left onto Wickenden Street, left onto Ives Street and then resume regular route.

R-Line (Broad/North Main)

SOUTH: Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Canal and Smith Streets, turn right onto Smith Street, left onto Francis Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street, right onto Stillman Street, left onto Park Row West, left onto Exchange Street and then resume regular route.

NORTH: Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Bus Stop J, turn left onto Exchange Street, right onto Stillman Street, left onto Park Row West, left onto Exchange Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, continue onto the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the State Offices Exit, right onto Orms Street, left onto Charles Street, right onto Randall Square, left onto N. Main Street and then resume regular route.
