RIPTA TO SUSPEND ALL SERVICE, INCLUDING RIDE PARANSIT, BY 3:30 PM TODAY DUE TO SEVERE STORM

March 13, 2018

Press Releases

With road conditions deteriorating and today’s severe winter storm forecasted to extend into the early evening, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced that all service will be suspended by 3:30 PM, Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Safety is RIPTA’s top priority, and intensifying storm conditions are making it dangerous to remain on the road. More than thirty routes are currently on detour.

RIPTA officials also noted that with minimal passenger activity, they appreciate the fact that most Rhode Islanders are heeding Governor Gina Raimondo’s urging to stay off the roads today. Suspending service this afternoon will help RIPTA prepare for resumption of service tomorrow.

The transit authority expects to resume normal routes and schedules tomorrow, but road conditions will be a factor so as always, passengers are strongly advised to monitor news reports, check www.RIPTA.com and RIPTA’s social media outlets (Facebook @RideRIPTA, Twitter @RIPTA_RI) for service updates.
