RIPTA’s FALL Service Changes to Take Effect SATURDAY, AUGUST 23, 2014

August 19, 2014

Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement fall service changes effective Saturday, August 23, 2014. RIPTA makes regular service adjustments three times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use. These fall service changes are also part of the fourth phase of RIPTA’s implementation of its Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) which assessed the demand for transit service throughout the state.

2014 Fall Service Changes

These annual changes are moderate and include the start of selected fall services, trip time changes, route enhancements, as well as rescheduling for better on-time performance. Fall services scheduled to start August 23RD include daily service on Route 67 (Bellevue/Mansions/Salve Regina University) to Salve Regina University and Marble House. Also, additional morning and late evening trips have been added on Route 60 (Newport/Providence), including an 8:02AM weekday trip from the Franklin St. Park & Ride in Warren, a 6:30AM trip from Providence to Newport on Saturdays, and two additional late evening trips from Newport back to Providence.

Service frequency will increase on Broadway in Providence to every ten minutes with Routes 27 (Broadway/Manton) and 28 (Broadway/Hartford) alternating service, each running every 20 minutes. Route 50 (Douglas Ave.) will also provide service every 20 minutes. Route 49 (Camp Street), originally proposed for elimination, will continue to serve Miriam Hospital and the surrounding area. RIPTA has also added additional service on several Providence routes to accommodate Providence high school students.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to check new schedules for how service changes may affect them. They may also pick up the leaflet entitled Fall Service Changes Effective August 23, 2014 that is available at Kennedy Plaza; the leaflet is also viewable online. Please remember to check the Temporary Bus Stop Map for current bus stop locations; the map is available online and at the Kennedy Plaza Information Window.
