RIPTA’s Winter Service Changes to Take Effect Saturday, December 24, 2016

November 30, 2016

Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement winter service changes effective December 26, 2016.   RIPTA makes regular service adjustments several times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use.

 2016 Winter Service Changes

These annual changes include route restructuring, as well as rescheduling for better on-time performance.  For many routes, only a slight trip time change occurred.  Some other service changes include trip reductions due to low or no ridership and frequency increases in response to heavy ridership.  Routes 32 (East Providence/Wampanoag), 33 (Riverside) and 34 (East Providence/Seekonk Square) have been restructured to better improve service reliability.  All Route 50 (Douglas Avenue) trips will now serve the Shaw’s Plaza in North Providence. A new Route 70 (URI/Engineering Line) line will connect passengers from the main campus of URI to the new engineering facility.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to check new schedules for how service changes may affect them.  They may also pick up the leaflet entitled Winter Service Changes Effective December 24, 2016 that is available at Kennedy Plaza; the leaflet is also viewable online.
