RIPTA to Detour Nineteen Routes in Providence to Accommodate the Downtown Jingle 5K on Sunday, December 10, 2023

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour nineteen bus routes in the downtown Providence area on Sunday, December 10, 2023, in order to accommodate the Downtown Jingle 5K Road Race.  Bus Routes 1, 14, 17, 19, 33, 34, 35, 50, 51, 54, 55, 56, 57, 60, 66, 72, 78, 92 and the R-Line will be detoured from approximately 9:15 am to 11:15 am. Passengers can expect short delays during the Downtown Jingle 5K.  

Route 1 (Eddy/Hope/Benefit):

Northbound trips will travel the regular route.

Southbound trips will travel the regular route to Hope and Thayer Streets, continue on Hope Street, turn right on Angell Street, right on South Main Street, left on Smith Street, left on Gaspee Street through to Francis Street, left on Washington Street, right on Exchange Street and then right on Fulton Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 14 (West Bay)

Inbound trips will travel regular route.

Outbound trips will travel regular to right on Exchange Street, right on Fulton Street, right on Dorrance Street to Francis Street, left on I-95 South, and then resume regular route.

Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Washington Street, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 19 (Plainfield/Westminster):

Please refer to the Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset) detour.

Route 33 (Riverside):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Angell Street, turn right onto South Main Street, left on Smith Street, left Francis Street, and then turn left on Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 34 (East Providence):

Please refer to the Route 33 (Riverside) detour.

Route 35 (Rumford/Newport Ave.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to I-195 West continuing onto I-95 North, turn right at the Downtown Exit, right onto Francis Street, continue onto Dorrance Street, and then turn left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Dyer Street through to Eddy Street, left onto Point Street, right onto South Main Street and then resume regular route.

Route 50 (Douglas Ave./Bryant University):

Inbound trips will travel to Washington Street to left on Exchange Street, left on Exchange Terrace, right on Francis Street and left on Smith Street to resume regular route.

Outbound trips will turn left onto Exchange Terrace, right onto Francis Street, left onto Smith Street and then resume regular route.

Route 51 (Charles St/Twin River/CCRI):

Inbound trips will travel regular route to Canal Street, turn right on Smith Street, left on Francis Street to Dorrance Street and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza, turn left on Exchange Street, left on Exchange Terrace, right on Francis Street, right on Smith Street, left on Mill Street to Charles Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket):

Route 55 (Admiral/Providence College):

Please refer to the Route 50 (Douglas Ave./Bryant University) detour.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Ave.):

Please refer to the Route 50 (Douglas Ave./Bryant University) detour.

Route 57 (Smith St.):

Please refer to the Route 50 (Douglas Ave./Bryant University) detour.

Route 60 (Providence/Newport):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to I-195 West to I-95 North, turn right at the Downtown Exit, right onto Francis Street and then left onto Exchange Terrace to Bus Stop Y.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street to Francis Street, left onto I-95 South to I-195 East, and then resume regular route.

Route 66

Inbound trips will travel regular route to Bus Stop Y (will not serve train station), turn right on Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Washington Street, left onto Exchange Street, and then left onto Exchange Terrace to Bus Stop X.

Outbound trips will travel regular route. 

Route 72 (Weeden Central Falls):

Route 78: (Beverage Hill Ave/East Providence)

Please refer to Rumford/Newport Ave. detour.

Route 92 (RI College/Federal Hill/East Side):

EAST: Inbound trips from Rhode Island College will travel the regular route to Bus Stop J, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Dyer Street, and then resume regular route.  

WEST:  Trips from Eastside Market will travel the regular route to Dyer Street, turn left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Lower Weybosset Street to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop D.

R-Line:

Southbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of North Main and

Smith Streets, turn right onto Smith Street, left onto Francis Street, continue through to Dorrance, turn left on Washington Street, right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, and then resume regular route. 

Northbound trips will travel the regular route to Bus Stop J, turn left onto Exchange Street, left on Exchange Terrace, right on Francis Street, right on Smith Street, left on North Main Street, and then resume regular route.

ATTENTION RIPTA MBTA Passengers :

The S. Attleboro train station is closed until further notice. For train access, please ride RIPTA to the Pawtucket-Central Falls Transit Center. Passengers can also ride RIPTA to Providence (Kennedy Plaza) and then walk or transfer to Providence Station.
